Jackson is the first genuine ruckman to win the NAB AFL Rising Star award, receiving maximum votes from 9 of the 11 judges to win by 13 (51 to 38) from GIANTS midfielder Tom Green.

He had a wonderful second year at the elite level, ably supporting All-Australian captain Max Gawn as he averaged 13 disposals, 10 hit-outs and 3 marks in 21 home-and-away games. He is the third Demon to win the award after Jesse Hogan in 2015 and Jared Rivers in 2004.
